Energy Audits

Saving money on your homes energy bills and reducing your homes carbon foot print is important, but getting grant money from the Federal Government to improve the efficiency of your home is great!

National Resources Canada and the ecoEnergy Retrofit-Homes program provides financial incentives to home owners to improve their homes energy consumption. This program includes grants for upgrading insulation, doors and windows, heating and cooling systems, ventilation systems, hot water heating systems, building envelope, air sealing and water conservation.

To qualify for ecoEnergy grants home owners must work with a Certified Energy Advisor (CEA), accredited by Natural Resources Canada. The CEA will come to your home before you start your energy upgrades and do an energy audit of your home including a “blower door test” to determine the air tightness of the home; this is called the Pre-Retrofit Assessment.

The CEA then models your homes energy efficiency rating and provides you with an Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report which describes the energy characteristics of the home, suggests upgrades and related ecoEnergy grants available. Once you have the report you can complete the upgrades to your home. When the upgrades are all done you will need to have the CEA back to do a Post-Retrofit Assessment of the home and the new energy upgrades.

Again a “Blower Door Test” is done and the house is again energy modeled. The CEA compares the energy characteristic on the Pre and Post Retrofit Assessments and the new energy efficiency rating for your home is established. The CEA also verifies the grant eligible upgrades and sends a report to the federal EcoEnergy Retrofit-Homes program and your ecoEnery Retrofit-Homes cheque is mailed to you. The CEA does all of the paper work, all you have to do is sign up for the program and do the upgrades and pay the CEA fees, it that easy....Free Money!
